Morning Matters: Understanding & Supporting Children who are Grieving
Thursday, May 14, 2026
09:00 AM - 10:30 AM
This webinar, Understanding & Supporting Children Who Are Grieving, led by Dianne Baek, LMSW from Bo’s Place, explores how children and teens experience grief following the death of a loved one, with a particular focus on grief after suicide. Suicide loss can be especially complex and confusing for young people, often bringing feelings of shock, guilt, anger, fear, and unanswered questions that affect both emotional and physical well-being.
Participants will learn to recognize grief as a full-body experience, understanding how children may express grief through behavior changes, physical symptoms, play, withdrawal, or emotional outbursts. The webinar will also examine how children’s understanding of death and suicide evolves across developmental stages, highlighting why age-appropriate language and expectations are essential when offering support.
A key component of the session focuses on how to talk with children and teens about suicide-related deaths in honest, developmentally appropriate, and supportive ways. Attendees will gain practical guidance on responding to difficult questions, addressing stigma, and creating safe spaces where young people feel heard and supported without fear of judgment.
This webinar is designed for caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and community providers seeking to strengthen their ability to support grieving children and teens impacted by suicide loss. By increasing understanding and building confidence in these conversations, participants will be better equipped to foster connection, resilience, and healing during one of the most challenging experiences a young person can face.
Who Should Attend:
This webinar is open to anyone interested in suicide prevention, including but not limited to behavioral health professionals, healthcare providers, community organizations, educators, and coalition members. CEs will be provided.
